Grandma Duvall's Funeral

James' sweet Grandma Duvall (mom's mom) passed away this month and we drove up to Washington for her funeral. It was a great time being with family and learning more about her.

Grandma had 10 children.
One passed away at age 13, but here are the 9 others.

James' family. James and 3 other siblings were able to make it.
Ellie is their 33rd Great Grandchild

Over the weekend, the girls put on a fashion show with Grandma's old clothing that she kept in her cedar chest. Most of the clothes were made by her mom. Tailored so perfectly. Apparently, she even won best dressed in High School. Her waist was so tiny and it was quite fun for all of us to try and squeeze into those dresses.

Dress I wore- she often wore to Primary to keep the children's attention

Dress I wore-Grandpa remembered this one and said she wore it quite a lot when they first got married.

Dress I wore-Grandma used to wear this to greet Grandpa after working all day.

She also had TONS of coats from when she lived in Minnesota so we modeled those too.

I was exploring the farm house and found these old suite cases that were Grandma's. They even had her initials on them, PJM.
While Ellie isn't a few days old anymore, I still thought I should put her in a suitcase like a newborn. It was cold outside and her headband got all wonky. But hey, she is in her Great Grandma's suitcases-pretty cool!

Last quick family picture before we headed back. (Eva is holding Ellie)

  1. I adore these pictures! I will have to show Peter when he gets home from work. So sad we weren't able to make it but these made me feel better. <3

  3. What a special memory!

I've been fortunate to not have to go to very many funerals (yet) and I always think of how sad it will be, but pictures like these remind me of the stories my father tells, of how attending a funeral means another time the family comes together and shares love and memories. It's obvious this was such an occasion for your family.

  4. Ooh, I am in LOVE with those suitcases. So glad you snapped a couple of pictures with them.

It was a beautiful weekend, wasn't it?!

PS Paul is putting together a CD with everyone's pics from the funeral. I'm sure you know, but because you're so good behind the camera, I thought I'd let you know just in case so you can pass yours along, too.
